Beverage and classification
What is beverage ?
- The term beverage refers to all kind of portable drinks that have thirst-quenching, refreshing ,stimulating ,nourishing properties.
- Food service operators deal with a wide range of beverages to satisfy the requirement of guests before,during and after meals and at any time of the day .
Beverage are broadly classified into alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages :-
Non-Alcoholic Beverage :-
The beverage which are not containing ethyl alcohol as an ingredient is called as non- alcoholic beverage. Consuming non- alcoholic beverages became has a way of life. We start a morning with bed tea/coffee and refresh ourselves with carbonated drinks at the end of the dinning day and finally go to bed with worm nourishing milk.
The non- alcoholic beverages are divided into mainly 3 parts :-
- Stimulating beverage
- Refreshing beverage
- Nourishing beverage
Stimulating Beverage :-
These beverages can stimulate our energy ,for some extent . The important stimulates beverages are tea and coffee.
Refreshing Beverages:-
These are mostly aerated, which is combination of water ,gas ,sugar and artificial essence. The common essences used are are lemonade and orange which belong to citrus family .
Nourishing Drink:-
Nourishing drink are high in protein , energy ,vitamins ,minerals and provide nutrition to the body .
Alcoholic Beverage:-
These are beverages that contain ethyl alcohol or ethanol (C2H5O5). The percentage of alcohol in a drink varies from 0.5% to 95%. ,depending on the method by which alcohol is obtained.
